Is It Time for New Tires? A Quick Guide for All Drivers
How to Know When It’s Time for a New Set of Tyres
Whether you’re commuting daily, heading out on weekend road trips, or just running errands around town, your tyres are one of the most important parts of your vehicle. But how do you know when it’s time to replace them?
1. Tread Depth is Low
Your tyre tread is what keeps you gripped to the road. Over time, it wears down — and if it gets too low, your tires can’t properly handle rain, snow, or sudden stops.
2. Cracks, Bulges, or Damage
Tyres go through a lot — potholes, curbs, heat, and cold can all wear them down. Look for:
Cracks in the sidewall
Bulges or blisters
Nails or other embedded objects
Any of these could mean your tyre is at risk of a blowout.
3. Your Ride Feels Rougher
Feel like your car is riding bumpier than usual? That could be a sign of uneven wear or internal tyre damage. If you notice shaking, vibrations, or pulling to one side while driving, it’s worth getting your tyres checked.
4. You're Losing Air Frequently
Need to top off your tyres more than usual? If a tyre is losing air consistently, it could mean a slow leak or damage that can’t be safely patched. Over time, under-inflated tyres can lead to poor fuel economy and unsafe driving.
5. They’re Just… Old
Even if they look okay, tyres that are more than 6 years old may start to degrade due to age alone — especially if your car isn’t driven often. Most tyre manufacturers recommend replacing them at least every 6–10 years, depending on usage and storage.
